Location of Arundel Castle
The castle is located near the river of Arun, between the South Downs and the English Channel. Since the castle was built not long after the Norman Conquest, the purpose of the castle was to guard the gap made by the river through the Downs. It was also established near a large village so they were able to keep and eye on and protect the villagers in case of an invasion.
